Kindergarten


Goals & Objectives

At Lighthouse Christian School, we offer an inviting, multi-culturally diverse learning environment where five and six year olds are free to explore, and grow academically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally in the following ways:

  • Phonological awareness of all 26 letters, vowels and consonants, short vowel sounds, long vowel sounds, marking vowels, word families, rhyming words, sorting & alphabetizing the letters, sentence comprehension, blends
  • Reading Readiness: begin with one vowel words, three letter words up to and including two vowel words, sight words, and special sounds as in “st in stop”.
  • Writing: manuscript letters, words, & sentences, teaching correct letter stroke and placement, proper pencil grasp, upper and lower case letters, first and last name, journaling includes detailed illustrations
  • Math: number concepts and formation through 100, simple addition and subtraction combinations, telling time, money, number sequence/words, before, after & between numbers, concepts of more or less, measurements, concepts of longer or shorter
  • Bible: factual knowledge, biblical concepts, discerning truth, weekly devotions, memory verses, studying Bible characters and their traits
  • Character building: kindness, respect, compassion, honesty, love, peace, joyfulness, responsibility
  • Electives: IPad, Art, Music & Drama, Gym, Spanish
  • Weekly Chapel services & student led praise & worship
  • Field Trips & Field Day
  • Morning snack & afternoon recess
  • Learning centers to apply phonics, math, and writing skills, crafts, homemade booklets, manipulatives for fine & gross motor development, puzzles
  • Science: learning about trees, wood & paper through FOSS curriculum
  • History: Community Helpers, America: Our Great Country
  • Geography: passport around the world, 7 continents, oceans, landmarks
